Martina Clyne Skrevet Oktober 27, 2017 Skrevet Oktober 27, 2017 Does anyone know what this is? Thank you for your assistance.
Erik Lie Skrevet Oktober 27, 2017 Skrevet Oktober 27, 2017 I believe it is a griffon (the fantasy animal), the crossing of a lion and an eagle.
Olaf Larsen Skrevet Oktober 27, 2017 Skrevet Oktober 27, 2017 Honestly, this looks more like a prank to me! It's a dog, isn't it?
Martina Clyne Skrevet Oktober 27, 2017 Forfatter Skrevet Oktober 27, 2017 It was in my grandfather’s personal collection. He was born in Norway so I assumed it was something special related to his heritage?
Kjell Halvorsen Skrevet Oktober 27, 2017 Skrevet Oktober 27, 2017 This looks like a fine work of embroidery. To me the depicted coat of arms resembles the Norwegian national Coat of arms - i.e. Den norske Løve/"The Norwegian Lion" even if an important item is missing; the halberd or axe. The reason for this might have been that this possibly is a miniature version which would make it somewhat harder to also include the halberd ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coat_of_arms_of_Norway

Hans Cappelen Skrevet Oktober 28, 2017 Skrevet Oktober 28, 2017 I am not sure what kind of animal this is, but in my opinion it is definetely not a griffin or a lion with an axe, as "The Norwegian Lion". It seems to me rather to be a shield with a a bend and across the bend a rampant wolf or a dog. The heraldic colours (tinctures) are silver shield, red bordure (?) and bend with black outline, and black animal with red outline. May be this is an embroidery made for a scouts group?
Martina Clyne Skrevet Oktober 28, 2017 Forfatter Skrevet Oktober 28, 2017 Do you know when scout groups were started in Norway Hans Canppelen? My grandfather was born in 1909, not sure if they were around yet?
Anne Hildrum Skrevet Oktober 28, 2017 Skrevet Oktober 28, 2017 The scout groups was started in Norway 25. mars 1911 . For girls it started in 1921
Martina Clyne Skrevet Oktober 28, 2017 Forfatter Skrevet Oktober 28, 2017 Thank you Anne Hildrum. Do you think this could be a patch for the scouts? Sigbjørn Sandsmark reagerte på dette 1
Even Stormoen Skrevet Oktober 29, 2017 Skrevet Oktober 29, 2017 Even though scouts do not normally use crowns in their patches, nor the ‹shield-shape›, I nevertheless have been browsing various scout’s emblems: http://leksikon.speidermuseet.no/wiki/Forbunds-_og_korpsmerker http://leksikon.speidermuseet.no/wiki/Kretsmerker http://leksikon.speidermuseet.no/wiki/Gradsmarkeringerhttp://leksikon.speidermuseet.no/wiki/Dyktighetsmerkerhttp://leksikon.speidermuseet.no/wiki/Patruljemerkerhttp://leksikon.speidermuseet.no/wiki/Leirmerker But no match. No known norwegian military emblems matches either. And no ‹paramilitary› from WW2. (The NS and affiliated organisations, who most certainly would not be using a crown . . .) So, – still in the dark . . .
Martina Clyne Skrevet Oktober 29, 2017 Forfatter Skrevet Oktober 29, 2017 Interesting. Thank you for looking Even.
