Randi Olsdatter's father and immigration

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to figure out Randi Olsdatter's father, in her birth record it states that Ole Amundsen is her father but in her marriage record it states Ole Brynjulfsen.  Did her father die and her mother remarry?

Here is Randi's birth record, number 45.

https://media.digitalarkivet.no/view/8966/58

Here is the marriage record for Randi Olsdatter and Gunder Gulbrandsen at Jevnaker church April 29, 1874. Number 17.

https://media.digitalarkivet.no/view/8967/199

The 1875 census shows the married couple with Gunder's mother living with them in Jevnaker, Lunner.  I know they immigrated April 6, 1883 from Lunner, Hadeland.  I don't have the actual record of this to verify but I do have the Census from 1895 living in Erhard Groves, Minnesota.

Would appreciate any information relating to the immigration and if Randi and Gunder had any children before they left for America.

Thank you for your assistance.

Randi's birth record says Uægte = born out of wedlock.

Father: Ungk(ar) = Spinster Ole Amundsen Kløstad and pige = maid/servant Margrete Tostensd(atter) Oveneje(?).

If they didn't marry - she may have married another man later on.

I found this, number 11, right side:

SAH, Jevnaker prestekontor, Lysningsprotokoll nr. 2, 1867-1897
Brukslenke for sidevisning: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20060626050061

This record states that Ole Amundsen is her father.

Sorry, I don't know the english word for "lysningsprotokoll".

This could be Ole Amundsen with his family in neighbouring Gran parish.

But: Where was Randi living in 1865 (census), and where was Ole?

Emigration 1883:  https://www.digitalarkivet.no/view/9/og00000000979060

I appreciate the emigration record for Gunder Gulbrandsen but I don't see Randi listed as immigrating with him.  Did she leave later after he settled in Minnesota?  Would appreciate finding her emigration record as well.  Thank you Jon Erik Berg-Hansen.

Racing thru the parish records for Jevnaker 1874 - 1884, I find no children listed for this couple.

Messing things up? :

https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/9/og00000000979060

Click  Next - and you'll see that he travelled in the company of another (married) woman from Jevnaker - both going to Rothsay.

None of them (Gunder or Randi) are listed in the parish records as moving out of Jevnaker.

Hmmm I'm confused?  So I need to search for Randi's immigration because they are listed together in Minnesota 1895 census.  I wonder if the other married woman was a sister-in-law of his?

Gustav (Gunder) Adolph Gulbrandsen (b. Aug 21, 1866 in Jevnaker) parents were Erik Gulbrandsen and Marte Johnsdatter.  Are you able to find his birth record, I have the Ancestry text only collection, not the actual record.

Randi's father Ole Amundsen and her mother Margarethe Tollefsdatter or Torstensdatter (various translations I have received) must be listed in a census? The ones you provided don't list Margarethe as the mother?

Thanks again Jon Erik Berg-Hansen

In (2) I stated that Randi was born out of wedlock.

In (8) I assumed that this was Ole in his marriage.

In (1) The mother's name is Magrete(*1) Tostens(*2)datter  - living on Oveneje (part of the Oven farm)

*1 Also written Margrethe / Margarethe - - - .

*2 Sometimes also written Torstens -  - - .

I'm not able to find this Magrete/Margrethe listed anywhere in the digitized records.

We don't know her age - and she may have died prior to the 1865 census.

Travelled with ship CASPIAN, arriving in Halifax, N.S., Baltimore, MD and St. John's, Nfld. on 1883-04-20. FS and Ancestry obviously struggled transcribing their names, except Ingeborg. Gunder and Ingeborg together on the pass. list, image 3, number 652 & 654. Andrine on image 4, number 026620.

Thank you all for your help!!!!   I was told that Annie (Andrine possibly) was adopted and that Gunder and Randi didn't have any biological children.  In Gunder's death record Dec 28, 1939 in Erhard, Otter Tail County, Minnesota it list his wife as Randi Thorstenson.  The birth date is not correct but I have found that to be true with some other family members.

Here is their tombstone on Find A Grave: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/53008846

Just not sure how Ingeborg fits in this family?

I need to take a step back and review all the US documents I have and work backwards again.
