Which Ole Olsson is Ole Olsson?

Recommended Posts

I am researching the Anna Nøstbakken genealogy. Anna was born on Naustbakken, side 226 of Bømlo Bygdebok IV. Her father is Ola Olsson Løkling (Nøkling) Søre Naustbakken and her mother is Marie Bendikte Eikeland. Is her grandfather Ola Olsson Hagland? Finnås sokneprestembete, AV/SAB-A-99925/H/Ha/Haa/Haaa/L0004: Ministerialbok nr. A 4, 1804-1830, s. 47
Brukslenke for sidevisning: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20070507610546. right hand page, for Ole. On page 231 of the Bømlo bygdebok, there is an Ola Hag;and. Anglevik Bømo. Are these two people related? I was unable to find the birth record of this person (1766) whose parents are Ole Larsson  (fra innan frå landet) and Astried Larsdtr. Nordvik, Fitjar.

So is the line: Anna Naustbakken, Ola Olsson Løkling 1845-1918, Ola Olsson Hagland (1812 - 1844), Ola Olsson (1766-??)Anglevik, Bømlo, Ola Larsson ?? - d. 1797.

On page 509 of Bømlo bygdebok II, it says Ola Olsson Hagland died in 1844; there is born an Ole in 1838 and another by a different father born in 1845.

The Ole born on the right side here

is son of Ingebret Omundsen Vorland. Ole Hagland is one of the godfathers.

Here is the marriage of Ole Olsen Nøkling and Marie Benedicte Eriksdatter 26 December 1869

Ole Olsen, 23 1/2 years old from Finnaas prestegjeld, son of Ole Olsen

I find a matching baptism on 22 June 1845 of Ole Olsen, son of Ole Olsen Nøkling and Anne Pedersdatter

Ole Olsen Nøkling, 24 years, born in Hagland in Skaare (Haugesund), son of Ole Olsen married Anne Pedersdatter, 29, from Søndre Sille on 9 August 1835

Here is a plausible candidate for Ole Olsen Fæøy in 1801

Transcribed as Sæ-øe, but I believe Fæ-øe is correct looking at the original

I think we need to revisit this, and question the conclusions from the Skåre bygdebok.

It is true that Ole Olsen Fæøy (b.1774-) married Ingeborg Johannesdatter Hagland in 1803, but I do not think this couple lived at Hønsehaugen/Hagland, and I do not think they were parents to Helge 1805, Lars 1807, and Ole 1811, in contrast to the claim in Skåre bygdebok.

It is documented in the church records that the parents of these children were Ole Olsen Hagland and wife, but I don’t think the wife was Ingeborg Johannesdotter.

Instead, I believe Ivar was on to something when he suggested the couple Astri Helgesdatter and  Ole Olsen from Egeland in Finnås/Bømlo.

The Skåre bygdebok actually lists a «mysterious» widow Astrid Helgesdatter as the occupant of Hønsebakken/Hagland until 1819 after Ole Olsen died in 1811. In 1819 the farm was handed over to Helge Siursson. Astrid and the three boys then must have moved back to Bømlo.

There is also a probate for Astri Helgesdatter Eikeland from 1828 where the three sons Helge, Lars and Ole are listed.

Helge Olsen 21 years

Lars Olsen 19 years

Ole Olsen 17 years

which fits precisely with the three boys born at Hagland

I also find the confirmation of Ole Olsen born 1811 in Finnås in 1828, No. 3

On page 192 of Anglevik, Ola Larsson married for the second time to Astrid Larsdtr. Nordvik, Fitja, (died at age 76 in 1797). They had a child Ola Anglevik in 1766. Family lore indicates that Ola Olsson Anglevik Eikeland, (born 1766) is an ancestor. Ola married Astrid Helgesdatter. Eikeland (1772-1823) and they had a child Ola, born in 1812 who married a Løkling. O

Yes, revisiting the records shows that this is correct. Ole Olsen born 1766 and wife Astrid Helgesdatter moved to Hagland in Skåre in 1805. They had a son Ole born 1811 who married a Løkling, as well as two other sons, Helge and Lars. Ole born 1766 died at Hagland in 1811, and his widow moved back to Bømlo in 1819.

Ole Olsen lille Hagland was buried on November 10, 1811, 42 1/2 years

This must be Ole Olsen who married Astrid Helgesdatter Eikeland in 1799.

I have now been able to access the Bømlo bygdebok, and realize that I was a little too quick accepting the involvement of Ole Olsen Anglevik born 1766

What we have established is that the person you are looking for, the father of Ole Olsen Hagland b.1811 and grandfather of Ole Olsen Nøkling b.1845, was married to Astrid Helgesdatter Eikeland in 1799, and that they moved to Hagland in 1805 where they had three sons, Helge, Lars and Ole.

You suggested that the groom in 1799 was Ole Olsen, born 1766 in Angelvik, son of Ole Larson, (as stated in Bømlo bygdebok page 231), but this needs to be verified

The original wedding record from 1799 (see Ivar's post above) states that he was from Kiernagelen. That is Tjernagelen in Sveio, on the mainland south of Bømlo Fjord, and just north of Hagland, Skåre.

Looking at the bygdebok from Sveio, there is an Ole Reidarson and Mari Larsdatter there who had a son Ole born 1769, who is also identified here as the person who married in Eikeland, Moster. The birth year 1769 is also in better agreement with the age given at his death in Hagland in November 1811, 42 1/2, and the census record from Eikeland (Egeland) in 1801.

Here is a summary of the ancestry including their place of birth (checked primary sources in bold):

Ola Reierson Ulvåker (~1726-1783) x Mari Larsdotter Tjernagel (1735-1805)

Ola Olson Tjernagel (1769-1811) x Astrid Helgesdotter Eikeland (1772-1823)

Ola Olson Hagland (1811-1844) x Anne Pedersdotter Nøkling

Ola Olson Nøkling (1845-1918) x Marie Benedikte Eriksdatter Sætre (1847-)
