[#1929] Change in spelling of farm name

In the census of 1865 my great grandfather is listed as living on a farm named Hougen in Aadalen, Buskerud county. However, when the family immigrated to the United States in 1869 the farm name on the ship's passenger list is spelled Haugen. Is there a logical explanation for the change? Thanks.

Haugen is the modern spelling of Hougen. Sounds the same. Means the same. Although i 1869 I would think the old spelling was still used, so it could be that someone has misread the o for an a.
