peter sven Skrevet Mai 9, 2011 Skrevet Mai 9, 2011 I have 2 ancestors who are described as a "hammerskriver" and a "hammersforvalter". They both lived in Kongsberg, close to the Kongsberg Silverworks. My Google search for these jobs have been unsuccessful and I am hoping someone in the forum can give an answer. My best gues is a clerk in the silverworks.
Leif Biberg Kristensen Skrevet Mai 9, 2011 Skrevet Mai 9, 2011 Look up Trip hammer in Wikipedia. There were several hammer works associated with the metal industry. A «hammerskriver» was a clerk or accountant employed by the hammer work, and the «forvalter» was the local manager.
peter sven Skrevet Juni 2, 2011 Forfatter Skrevet Juni 2, 2011 Thank you all for your help. My apologies to Lief as I was not aware of his reply (9 May) until today. I am still trying to understand the forum website.
