Steffine Marie Andersen f. 23.09.1879 i Aarstad. Hvordan finne utvandret slektning i USA?

Recommended Posts

Tips!

Legg hennes fulle navn,fødselsdato og fødested i tematittelen.

Please forgive me for replying in English. If this is difficult for you to read, perhaps someone on this board can translate this into good Norwegian.

Gerhard Andersen arrived in New York City 1 October 1907, and the name of the uncle he was traveling to was John Stenson in Newark, IL (in Kendall County, Illinois - which is also where Millbrook, IL, is located). See NY passenger arrival list at https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JX27-LZX

Found arrival for Stefanie Andersen, 26 December 1907 in New York City - she is heading to a different uncle, Erik Stensen, at Millington Road in Stendal Co. (probably should be Kendall Co.?). See https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JXLT-P3B

Here is Eric Stenson in 1910 census in Fox Township, Kendall County (which includes both Millington and Millbrook): https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MKDJ-TTR

Think I found her marriage. On 8 Aug 1909 in Newark, Kendall County, IL, Stefina Stinson, daughter of Anderus Stenson (i.e., Anders Stenson) and Severma Olsen (presumably Severine Olsdatter) married Richard Thorson. See https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KFLZ-B8C

In 1920 census, Stiffena Thorson (born 1879/80 Norway, emigrated c. 1908) is wife of farmer Richard Thorson in Little Rock Township, Kendall County: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MJ4G-XMT

In 1930 census, Staphena Thorson (born 1879/80 Norway, emigrated c. 1907) is wife of farmer Richard Thorson in Little Rock Township, Kendall County: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XSYY-H8N

In 1940 census, Stefina Thorson (born 1879/80 Norway) is wife of farmer Richard Thorson in Little Rock Township, Kendall County: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KWHR-GK3 (mis-transcribed as Ikarson rather than Thorson)

No children in any of the censuses; in 1940 a niece is living with them.

There is an online familytree at ancestry.com that claims she died 4 April 1956 in Illinois, but gives no source (I have not been able to verify this): https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/5660803/person/1922966791/facts

This family tree, incidentally, has lots of information on Steffine's siblings who also emigrated to the U.S.

I am afraid I cannot help there, as I am working from the U.S. Perhaps one of the Norwegians on this forum who is a member of ancestry.com can help you with that.

The general information from the family tree on siblings of Steffine Andersen:

2) Brother Charles Robert (went by Charles Robert Stone in America): born 20 Jun 1884 in Bergen, arrived in US 23 Nov 1904, lived in Chicago, IL, after World War II moved to St. Charles, Kane Co., IL (south of Chicago), died there 7 Feb 1978. Married, 4 children

3) Brother Gerhard Emanuel (went by Gerhard Stensen in America): born 29 Sep 1887 in Bergen, arrived in US 1 Oct 1907, lived in Chicago, IL, died there 4 Feb 1971, apparently never married

4) Brother Edwin (went by Edwin Stone in America): born 15 Jun 1889 in Bergen, first in US in 1909, permanently emigrated 23 Jan 1918 in MI, fate in America not known.

5) Sister Kirstine Oleane (went by Kirsten Steen in America): born 9 Feb 1893 in Bergen, arrived in US ca. 1909, married in Chicago, IL 29 Nov 1913, died in Chicago 13 Jul 1963, married name Kirsten Hovland, 3 children
