Ole Christofferson Bye født i Søndre Land 11-4-1818?

I was pretty much certain that Ole and family were from By gård (gårdsnummer 62), a bit south of Hov.

 

It is, after all, the only one listed in Rygg's "Norwegian Farm Names", dating from the turn of the last century.

 

The family (parents would have been Christopher Olssøn and Kari Jonsdatter) would have lived there from approximately the late 1700s early 1800s.

 

However, just yesterday I happened upon gårdsnummer 31, which is just a little bit north east of Fluberg (60°47'08.2"N 10°18'13.5"E). This one is, additionally, also listed with the bruksnavn of "Bye" rather than "By", so now I'm not so sure at all.

Could anyone please put me straight on this? Only two weeks from visiting now, and don't want to roll up on the wrong place.

The farm By (gårdsnummer 62, bruksnummer 1) lies in Hov subparish and must be the farm there Ole Christoffersen was born in 1818. He was baptized in Hov church.  Bruksnummer 1 shows that this is the main farm.

 

Bye (gårdsnummer 31, bruksnummer 10) lies in Fluberg. The main farm with gårdsnummer 31 is Øverby. Bruksnummer 10 shows that Bye was separated for Øverby much later. According to "Boka om Land" V, page 429, Bye was separated from Øverby as late as 1924.

Thanks for the confirmation and the additional information about Hov church - you always expect that family would have worshiped or otherwise been involved with the closest church, but it's nice to know that with certainty here.
