hathlys@bigpond.net.au Skrevet Juni 23, 2020 Del Skrevet Juni 23, 2020 I am tracing my genealogy and hope you may be able to help. My great grandfather ALEXANDER CHRISTENSEN was born in Arendal, c1848 - 1851. He immigrated to New Zealand c1860 where he married in 1875 aged 24. He died in 1886 aged 38 and had lived in New Zealand for 26 years. His father was a farmer. I do not know his parents names and family knowledge is that he worked his way out as a carpenter. I have not found any shipping records for him and cannot find his birth. I have no knowledge of him in New Zealand before he married. Would you please be able to search birth records for him and his family? Do you have any records of people leaving the parish or shipping records? Jon Erik Berg-Hansen Skrevet Juni 25, 2020 Del Skrevet Juni 25, 2020 (endret) First - change heading to Alexander Christensen from Arendal to New Zealand about 1860. Your own name won't catch the eyes of interested readers/helpers. Seems there's no Alexander bapt. in Arendal or the neigbouring Tromøy parish 1845-1852. Emigrants often gave the name of the nearest town as their birth parish If he was born 1848-1851, it would've been highly unusual for him to move out alone prior to confirmation (usually at the age of 14-16). Can you provide links to your info (his marriage / or apl. for naturalization)? https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/search/sources?s=&from=1845&to=1860&format=all&archive_key=<[]=dp<[]=ub&m[]=0903 Endret Juni 25, 2020 av Jon Erik Berg-Hansen Dag T. Elin Galtung Lihaug Skrevet Juni 25, 2020 Del Skrevet Juni 25, 2020 (endret) If he was born close to Arendal, he might have traveled through Kristiansand. Here is a register of passports presented to the police authorities in Kristiansand during the years 1853-1876: Vest-Agder county, Passport register no. 224E (1853-1876), Protocol page, Page 56https://www.digitalarkivet.no/em10411507131056 Perhaps you will find him there?
