American Family Coming to Norway in August, need help deciphering records

Recommended Posts

Hello, I apologize for not being able to read or write Norwegian. My family is coming to a Norway for a long-delayed trip to my Mother in Law's ancestral home. Her Grandfather was born in Rindal parish and later lived near Tustna. Her Grandmother was born (with her twin) in Stor-Elvdal.  They both emigrated in the late 19th century, and married when they met in Wisconsin. I have found various records (kirkebook, census records and the like) showing them just before they emigrated, but I was hoping we could visit with someone while in Oslo or on our visit to help us understand the records we have and hopefully visit the sites associated with them.

Any help would be appreciated!

My name Dan Myers, just married into the family but I'm the one interested in genealogy!

I guess I would recommend that you have as  much of the understanding done before you leave for Norway. Then you can plan visits to places of most interest before you arrive.

Welcome to the forum.

Anton came before me... his advice is a very good advice.

Rindal and Tustna are far from Oslo (perhaps 8-10 hours driving by car), and Oslo may not be that interesting in the perspective of (your) family history.

Ask about interpretation and understanding of sources here - before you arrive.

Find a map to detect the places (and check here if you are on the right place - different places can have similar names).

BTW, also follow the rule you already have accepted by registration, to use full name as display name:
