Jens Jacobsen (Andreassen) emigrert til Canada

Recommended Posts

Again thanks for all help. I found Johan's  emigration. It says that he is going to Ottawa. Don't know if this is of any help. I post it anyway

Fra Ancestry

Ontario, Canada, Deaths and Deaths Overseas, 1869-1948

This database is an index to over 2 million deaths that were registered in Ontario, Canada, from 1869 to 1948.

Seems as if there should be some decent candidates, but searching  Joh* Ja* died 1915 +/- 10  only turns up 25 people, all from Toronto and no good candidates with a birth date any where near 1887.

I would say this data base for anyone not dying in Toronto is not very useful.

Anton, could you look again for Jens (or James) Anderson / Andreassen?  If that is he at the asylum, the asylum is in Toronto suburbs?

Thanks much.

No candidates, quite a few  Jennie of various spellings but no Jens at all.

Here is a small amount of history about the Etobicoke facility, it was for insane, but records very scarce:

Sarah McCourt French mentioned in the National Post article is probably # 44 on this page:

Something about immigrants in the Mimico asylum from 1908, but its not online:

You can order copies from the files at this page.  No discussion of fees here but it might be worth it to rule in or out, if J Anderson was recorded by 1908.

Jens Jacobsen / Andreassen went by James (Jim)

There are several trees on Ancestry. I am not subscribed, so my search is limited. Anyone subscribed to Ancestry could get more information.

For future references: when searching for a Jens in North America, search also for James.
