Sammenligningen blir ikke helt rettferdig. I gamle Digitalarkivet var det ikke i nærheten så mye data som det er nå. Det som kan fungere på små datamengder fungerer ikke på store datamengder.

Born 23 Feb 1838 at Skipnes Farm, (Bortshuset Skibsnæs), Nordsjo, Holden Prestegjeld, Telemark, Norway. To US on board the Salvator, arriving in New York on 6 Jul 1844 after a 59 day journey from Porsgrunn, Telemark. He came with his parents and four siblings. The family went to Whitewater, Walworth County, Wisconsin. In 1852, they went to Koshkonong, Wisconsin. Ole studied law at Beloit College. Civil War: Age 23. Commissioned Captain, 12 Nov 1861. Appointed Company B Commander on 1 Dec 1861. Promoted Major, 15 Nov 1862, at Edgefield, Tennessee, succeeding Carl Riise who had resigned. Promoted Lieutenant Colonel, 15 Mar 1863, with rank from 26 Feb 1863, after the death of Lieutenant Colonel David McKee. He was wounded and taken prisoner in the Battle of Chickamauga, Georgia, 20 Sep 1863, and sent to Libby Prison, Richmond, Virginia. He escaped from Libby in May 1864 and returned to Company B on 24 July 1864. He later was officially exchanged and in 1865 returned to command the 15th Wisconsin. Promoted to Colonel. Mustered out on 10 Feb 1865. Named Colonel of the 53rd Wisconsin Infantry on 21 Feb 1865, but war ended before that regiment could take the field. Post war: Married on 3 Jan 1867 to Caroline Freie Bödtker. One child, a son, named Wilfor Chickamauga Shipness. In his later years Ole adopted the name “Skipnes”. He died 4 Nov 1886 in Beloit, Wisconsin. Held at Libby Prison in Richmond, Virginia for eight months. MAY 1864: During a transfer of commisioned officers from Libby Prison to Anderson Prison in Georgia he and two other officers escaped at Chester, South Carolina. To reach the safety of Union lines in Tennessee, Ole and the other two officers had to traveling on foot nearly three hundred miles. Living off the land and traveling only under the cover of darkness the three scaled mountains, crossed rivers and swamps and worked their way through dense forests. On June 10, 1864 after twenty-eight days on the run the three Union officers finally saw the Stars and Stripes fying over the Union headquarters at Strawberry Plains in eastern Tennessee. 10 FEB 1865 Mustered out of service at Chattanooga, Tennessee 21 FEB 1865: Promoted to Full Colonel in recognition of his long and distinguished service.

Victoria Advocate, The (TX) - Friday, May 11, 2001 Mary Ellen McNamee Shipnes, artist, passed away at her home in Independence, Texas, on Wednesday morning, May 9, 2001. Born in 1908 in Wabash, Indiana, to May Good McNamee and Henry H. McNamee. Mary Ellen graduated from Tudor Hall School in Indianapolis, Indiana, and attended the Boston Institute of Fine Arts. Married to Stanley W. Shipnes in 1932, she and her husband lived in Indianapolis, Indiana, and Houston, Texas, before moving to Washington County in 1965. She is survived by her daughter, Kristi Shipnes Cassin of Houston, Texas and her son Stuart Pawling Shipnes, and daughter-in-law, Joan Lentz Shipnes of Victoria, Texas; grandchildren, Jeffrey Pawling Shipnes, Julie Shipnes Allen, Clay Brian Cassin, Michael Bourke Cassin, and Macy Armstrong Cassin; great grandchildren, Kara Michelle Allen, Collin Scott Allen, Holly Bourke Cassin and Virginia Ellen Cassin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Wilford Shipnes, December 1995, her parents, and brother, Edward Macy McNamee. She was a member of the Junior Leagues of Indianapolis and Houston, the River Oaks Garden Club, Bolero and the Bayou Club. A prolific artist, Mary Ellen was represented in numerous galleries, including Cushman Gallery, DuBose Gallery and O'Kane Gallery in Houston; Worth Avenue Gallery in Palm Beach, Florida; and Clossons Gallery and Rentschler Associates Gallery in Cincinnati, Ohio; as well as in invitational shows at the Junior League of Houston, Inc., the Museum of Fine Arts of Houston and Northport Point, Michigan. Her watercolors and oil paintings depict early scenes of Galveston and Houston, the Caribbean Islands and Mexico, Texas and Michigan landscapes and colorful flower arrangements. Mary Ellen's work is known for its variety, vibrancy and whimsy, and is included in private collections throughout the country including the U.S. State Department. Lately her works have been featured on the Huffington Center on Aging, Baylor College of Medicine, and the Macular Degeneration Partnership websites. Mary Ellen and her love of life and people will be missed greatly by her family and many friends. Remembrances may be made to the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library, 100 West Academy, Brenham, Texas 77833; the W.F. Hasskarl Scholarship Fund, Brenham Clinic Association, 600 North Park, Brenham, Texas 77833; or the Atwill Memorial Chapel, 105 N. Northcott Dr., Northport Point, Michigan 49670.
